Can anyone recommend a free software program that I can use to convert Streams into other formats?

I've never dealt with streams until recently and was all excited that I could convert them with Nero Media Player. Unfortunately, it was only a test version and after 1.5 shows it stop working .

Are there any decent free conversion programs out there?

Thanks

To be perfectly honest, it's not regarding GD SDBs on this site as I already have some kind of copy of most of the ones I want and have actually gone back to collecting AUDs again. I am aware of Dead policies and have always respected them. I guess I should have 'thought' before I posted as I certainly see your point and concern.

Yet, I was interested in other music and radio streamings online where I have not known or found any restrictions stating that these streams couldn't be "captured". If this is generally forbidden then I really had no idea and certainly feel pretty stupid. This was intended as a general knowledge question and not a GD SBD question, however.

Sorry :-(

I use this as an add-on to Firefox: drivecast.eu/WebRecorder/

It can capture a 10 minute or so audio or video in mere seconds. It is automatic, so you need to disable it until you want to use it.

Don't feel bad...but, it's something that has been discussed here at length, and there at least two views: one, it's bad to talk about it because the owners of the "big board" told us not to, and if we upset things, just like the SBDs went away, somebody might get their short-shorts in a bundy, and take everything else away. Maybe even the Forum--can you imagine the CRISIS is THAT happened? Okay, maybe a bit of an over-reaction there, but you get the point...SDH, Rob and I had to each take another val thinking about that prospect. Then, there's the whole "we own's it, you paze for it" kinda thing that has to do with rights, blah, blah, blah.

Anyhow, one not so above board bit of advice--if you google this you'd find out quite a bit.

Methinks the disappearance of the forum from time to time for only a brief period may not be such a bad thing.

Easy for you to say...you actually have a life...you know, so called "outside interests" and such...hobbies even...no doubt a bizzy day with loved ones and family obligations...jeeezzz, like, "normal".

Take pity on the likes of Rob and SDH and Dire. All that biz about "work related difficulties" that SDH speaks of the last few months--I happen to know for a fact that he makes that crap up to "look good". And Rob--all that smokescreen about having to do this and that, I am sure that he'd be posting as much as me if he wasn't so busy perfecting the perfect post every waking hour so that he never has to "edit" them...and of course, there's Dire--he was even delusional enough to imagine that marriage would provide the necessary distraction to render the Forum less vital to his very being. Ha! We've seen how that worked out...

Hi - didn't see your response, sorry. I hope I didn't come over as too high handed and suspicious.

I don't really know too much about capturing streams from other sites - I imagine that if there's no download option then downloading is discouraged, but I'm not going to tell you not to go for it if you want to. I imagine most of us have the odd item or two in our collections that've been obtained by nefarious means ...

On the rare occasion I've captured a stream (got far too much to listen to as it is to bother much) I think I used VLC http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

You'll get lots of good techie advice from others better placed than me I'm sure.

I use a toilet bowl to capture my stream

No success trying to convert said stream to liquid gold - but have gotten the color down pretty well.

Is this a soundboard capture request I see before me?

You should be aware that such discussions are generally frowned upon by those of us who don't wish to see our free streaming access to the sbds jeopordised by flagrant disregard for the band's wishes that downloading of the boards from this site be forbidden.

Dig around in the forum and you'll see this question, or variants on it, comes up a lot.
